Joining one of the exclusive and intimate balloon safaris is to experience the very best of Myanmar with an unsurpassed sense of style, sophistication and adventure. Departing every December, it is a time when the fields are awash with colour, with swathes of green and yellow against brilliant blue skies.
The area in the hills above Pindaya in Shan State is reminiscent of the rolling hills of Tuscany. You will fly along the mountains and valleys, passing tiny Shan hamlets and hill top pagodas, occasionally swooping down to the delight of villagers, who have never seen a hot air balloon before. Dinner is served amongst towering banyan trees around a roaring campfire.
From Pindaya, you join the beautiful antique bus complete with spacious sedan chairs on to Shan State’s famed Inle Lake. To fly over the lake in a balloon is one of the most beautiful ways to see this wonder. You can watch local Inthar fishermen looking for the first catch of the day and boats laden full of produce on their way to the market through the immense labyrinth of canals. At higher altitude you will be amazed to see thousands of village houses seemingly floating on the lake as far as the eye can see. Afternoon tours allow opportunities for exploration by private boat with our knowledgeable guides, and an insight into the culture and lives of these remarkable people.
The final destination is Bagan. Against a backdrop of ancient temples drifting by, Bagan is at its most magical in the early morning, as the sheer scale of this historical wonder becomes apparent. Back on ground we discover the intricacies of making lacquerware, and take a closer look at the most impressive temples. Eventually, as the sun slips below the horizon, you will enjoy a private candle lit dinner on the banks of the mighty Ayeryarwaddy River.
